Anxiety is actually our natural self defense system that assess danger and tries to keep us safe from danger. So anxiety itself is natural, its beneficial – its a good thing!
Anxiety becomes a disorder when it assigns “danger” to a non-dangerous situation (event, place, etc.).
Any response to “fear” is driven by our natural self defense system (anxiety) and therefore any irrational – or misguided – response to fear falls under the description of Anxiety Disorder.
OCD is more of a description of how the anxiety disorder manifests itself.
Recovery is possible – and I have worked with many people who suffered greatly with OCD and all made great strides in creating recovery.
